David Dwayne
Wilson
Mar 12, 1937 — Jun 9, 2026
Lemmon
David Dwayne Wilson, 89, peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord on June 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and sustained by the faith that guided his life.
David's visitation will take place at the Turning Point Church in Lemmon, SD on Saturday, June 20th from 1:30 to 2 p.m., followed by his funeral service beginning at 2 p.m., officiated by his son, Ken Wilson.
David was born on March 12, 1937, in Mountain, Wisconsin, to Roscoe and Pearl (Benoit) Wilson. He grew up alongside his siblings, Richard, Ron, and Jeanette, in the community he would always hold close to his heart.
One of God's greatest blessings in David's life began at a pastor's anniversary celebration, where he met a young woman named Patsy. Their friendship blossomed into love, and on January 21, 1960, they were married. Together they built a life rooted in faith, devotion, and unwavering commitment. Their union was blessed with two sons, Mark, born in 1962, and Ken, born in 1965. David and Patsy shared 66 beautiful years of marriage, creating countless memories and a legacy of love that will continue through future generations.
The young couple began their married life in Mountain, Wisconsin. Later, at an age when many people are settled into their careers, David felt God calling him into ministry. At 45 years old, he enrolled in Bible college, faithfully pursuing his calling and graduating at the age of 48.
Following graduation, David began a ministry in Phillipsburg, Montana, where he and his family served for 19 years. Through dedication, hard work, and God's grace, he helped build both a congregation and a new church. The family's financial resources were modest—David was paid $300 per month—but he often supplemented their needs through hunting and fishing. Throughout those years, David and Patsy never doubted God's faithfulness. As they often reflected, "The Lord provided and was good to them."
When the church had grown and it was time to pass the ministry to a new pastor, David and Patsy moved to Lemmon, South Dakota, more than a decade ago. Even after stepping away from full-time pastoral leadership, David remained active in ministry and continued serving wherever he was needed until illness made it no longer possible.
During the final months of his life, David resided at Five Counties Nursing Home, where he lived for five months. Though his health declined, God's blessings continued to shine through. On the morning of his passing, David and Patsy shared breakfast together. For the first time in quite a while, David was talkative, and the two spent precious time reminiscing about fishing trips, cherished memories, and the life they had built together. Later, Patsy reflected on that gift of time by saying, "The Lord provided one more special moment. We had a good life together."
David will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, faithful pastor, humble servant of God, and a man who trusted the Lord's provision through every season of life. His steady faith, gentle spirit, and love for family left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Pearl Wilson; his siblings, Richard Wilson, Ron Wilson, and Jeanette.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Patsy Wilson; his sons, Mark Wilson (Tracy) and Ken (Mary) Wilson; niece, Sue (Johnson) Turner who was like a daughter to him; 4 grandchildren, Nick Wilson (fiancee, Melissa Smedema), Mitch Wilson (Brittney), Jacquelyn Bouwman (Isaac), and Dr. Patrick Wilson (Ashley); 4 great grandchildren, Amelia, Ryker, Elijah, Charlotte and a 5th one on the way; sister-in-law, Pat Johnson, and many extended family members, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ whose lives were touched by his ministry.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
