The Service of Rememberance for Darwyn Kunze, age 73 of Regent, will be held at 2:00 p.m. MT, Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church in Regent with Pastor Joe Burgess, officiating. Burial will be in the Regent Cemetery with full military honors afforded by the Ulmer-Zich American Legion Post #273 of Regent, ND.


Special music will be provided by Sally Donner and Michelle Fink.


Walter Bolte, Norman Moe, and all of Darwyn's friends are considered honorary bearers.


Serving as Active Casketbearers are Patrick Ranum, Lynn Ranum, Jeffrey Christianson, Shane Farber, Casey Banks, and Randy Christianson.


Darwyn Devine Kunze was born to Carl and Esther (Hoffer) Kunze on September 7, 1936 on the family farm in Regent, ND. He attended Regent Public School and graduated in 1955. After graduation, he taught school in the Wagendorf and Sheffield School Districts while attending Dickinson State Teachers College. In 1959, he returned to Regent, ND where he worked at the Farmers Union Oil Company (Cenex) for 45 plus years. On July 17, 1965, he married Joyce Farber in New England, ND. They celebrated 45 years of marriage on July 17, 2010 with family by renewing their wedding vows. Darwyn and Joyce had three children Todd, Tommy, and Kathy.


Darwyn enjoyed his life and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors including; hunting, fishing, and collecting arrowheads. He also enjoyed working with wood and tinkering. He enjoyed the challenge of fixing anything that was broken and if he could not find a part, he would make one. He served in the North Dakota National Guard from 1960 to 1966, and was called during the Berlin Crisis. Over the years, he has served in multiple capacities on the boards for the Faith Lutheran Church and the Ulmer-Zich American Legion Post # 273 of Regent.


Darwyn passed away in Mott, ND at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home on August 4, 2010.


He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Kathy of Regent, ND; son, Todd (Michelle) and their children Garrett, Nathan, and Emily, Omaha, NE; two brothers, Marlin (Roberta) Kunze, Bismarck, ND, and Gary Kunze, Regent, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews.


Darwyn was preceded in death by his son, Tommy; parents, Carl and Esther; and his in-laws, Herman and Kathryn Farber.


Visitation will be Friday, from 1:00 until the time of the family service at 7:00 pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott.
