Obituary

Darwin Rose, a testimony of hard work, grit and true spirit of helping others, passed away on May 18, 2024. He was born January 16, 1932 to Alfred Rose and Lena (Vigoren) Rose. Darwin grew up on a farm west of Hettinger and graduated from Hettinger High School in 1950. He graduated from Dickinson State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science - Accounting degree.

Based on his family's roots, Darwin farmed and ranched a few miles from where he grew up in Hettinger and it is where he started his family. While farming and ranching, he later became a co-owner of Dakota Meat Packing Company in Hettinger. He eventually moved to Billings, MT and transitioned from farming and ranching to providing tax services for farmers and ranchers. While in Billings, he married Jan who owned an equestrian centre. His love of the farm and ranch persisted throughout his life and career.

Darwin exemplified hard work, which all went towards his passion for the farm and ranch. He also loved to work with his hands and was famous for tinkering and creatively making repairs of virtually any piece of farm equipment. He also enjoyed his morning and afternoon coffee in town with his coffee buddies, with conversations ranging from the state of the country to whether they would get the rainfall needed, to stories reminiscing of the mischief from their childhood. Darwin always had a sparkle in his eyes when telling stories.

Darwin always was willing to lend a hand to family and friends. And, this spirit of helping also was evident through his leadership in local and state organizations including serving on the Board of Directors and Officer for both the Adams County Farm Bureau and North Dakota Farm Bureau. He was an Adams County 4-H Leader and participated in the Adams County Fair.

He is survived by: his wife, Janice Rose; daughter and son-in-law, Melodie Rose and Chris Knaggs; daughter and son-in-law, Heide Rose and Dan Schaefer; son-in-law, Bill Klubben; son-in-law, Bob Fisher; grandchildren Dillon, Kelsie and Roman Knaggs, and Jason (Alexis) Brown and Jessica Brown; and great-grandchildren Davin Suderback, Jacob Brown and Primrose Brown. He is preceded in death by two of his daughters, Carolyn Klubben and Mona Fisher.

Darwin will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 3 at the Hettinger Lutheran Church, with burial in the Hettinger Cemetery.
