Darrell Bauer Giesler was born on August 15, 1924 to Carl and Ella (Bauer) Giesler in Sibley, Iowa. In 1928, Darrell moved with his family to the Faith area where they pioneered the Pleasantview Ranch, nine miles northwest of Faith. He attended elementary and secondary school in Faith, graduating in 1942. In1945, Darrell joined the US Army, taking his basic training in Camp Hood, TX. After successfully completing basic training, he was stationed at the 279th Army Hospital in Berlin, Germany, where he served faithfully in the medical supply and x-ray department.
