The Memorial Mass for Darlene M. Gammell, age74 of Carson, will be held at 11:00 a.m. MT, Saturday, September 19, 2009 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Carson with Fr. Dan Berg, officiating. Inurnment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery at New Leipzig.


A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. MT on Friday evening at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Carson.

Special music will be provided by Patsy Hertz, Jackie Stewart, Bruce LaBeau, and Jodi Anderson.


The Ushers are Al Bahm, Jaymie Hertz, Reed Hertz. The Eucharistic Ministers are Joan Bahm, Stacey Laub, and Margie Laub. The Altar Servers are Riley Hertz, and Bernae Hertz. The Readers are Ann Hertz, and Dan Stewart.


DARLENE MARIE HERTZ was born October 19, 1934 at New Leipzig, ND to Joe and Marie (Ackerman) Hertz. She attended a local country school near her home. The Hertz family moved to Carson in 1943 where Darlene graduated from Carson High School in 1951. She went to St. Alexius School of Nursing in Bismarck and earned a LPN License. Darlene began working at St. Alexius Medical Center and in 1954, was united in marriage to Stanley Laub. Four sons, Keith, Kevin, Bruce, and Greg were born to this union while living in Bismarck. The family moved to Grand Terrace, CA where Darlene was a full time stay at home mom. While living in Grand Terrace, a daughter, Tracy was born.


Darlene was united in marriage to Jerry Gammell on July 6, 1974 in Las Vegas, NV. In October of 1975, they moved to Carson, ND where Darlene worked as an LPN at the Jacobson Memorial in Elgin. She worked there until retiring in 2002.

She had many hobbies including ceramics, card making, and scrap booking. She loved visiting with and spending time with her family and friends, talking on the telephone, working on the computer, and going to the casino. She adored the wild birds and turkeys and they came into her yard to eat at one of her many bird feeders.

Darlene passed away early Tuesday morning, September 15, 2009 at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin.

Surviving family members include her husband, Jerry, Carson, ND; 3 sons, Keith (Janette) Laub, Yucaipa, CA; Kevin (Margie) Laub, Sisseton, SD; Greg (Stacey) Laub, Rapid City, SD; 1 daughter, Tracy (Marty) Martin, Anchorage, AK; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Virgil (Patsy) Hertz, Carson, ND; Don (Lee) Hertz, Spokane, WA; Gary (Kathy) Hertz, Bismarck, ND; 1 sister, JoAnn Ozbun, Flasher, ND; 1 aunt, Lilly Ackerman, New Leipzig, ND; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Bruce on March 18, 2003.
