Corbin Loren Johnson was born on October 22, 1942, in Bismarck, ND to Florence (Odell) and Henry O. Johnson. He spent his childhood years with his two brothers and two sisters on the family farm near Morristown, SD. As a child he rode his tricycle and horse Foxy to the country school right up the road from his home, where his aunt Alice and neighbor Lavona Johnson were his teachers. He graduated from Lemmon High School in 1961. He loved fishing as a child and later instilled that same love of fishing in his kids and grandkids. He was affectionately called Corby, Uncle Corby, Corbs, Corb, dad and grandpa to those who knew and loved him.

As a third-generation farmer and rancher, Corby loved the rural and simple way of life; it ran strong through his veins. Corby became a dad to Steve in 1962 and Deb in 1963 through his marriage to LuAnn Evridge. On March 29, 1978, Corby married Suzie Lipp Kesling and became a stepdad to three more girls … although "step" was not a word that defined that relationship. He was a dad to them too. Corby loved spending time with Suzie at their home in Yuma, Arizona in the winters and the farm in Morristown in the spring and summer. Together they created a life that was full of adventure and built on solid ground. Corby was a friend and hero to many. His quick wit and one-liner sense of humor always brought a bright light on even the darkest of days. He was a man who said few words, but when he spoke you listened. He lived his life by the golden rule "Treat others the way you want to be treated." The advice and counsel he gave to his children and grandchildren will live on for generations. He loved his family unconditionally, but his love for Copenhagen, Diet Pepsi and chocolate ice cream were not far behind! You could count on Corby, and you could trust him. He was a man of his word. He loved the outdoors, loved to drive around and look at the crops, loved to play cards, loved to tease, loved to shoot pool, loved to watch CNN, but also watched FOX because he believed "you need to learn both sides before you vote."  He loved kids and they loved him too. He loved pickup trucks, especially Fords. And he loved cowboy boots (even golfed in them!). Corby left his mark on this world and his memory will live on forever in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren (one great-granddaughter is even named Corby!). He was a wonderful son, husband, dad, stepdad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Corby is survived by his wife of 43 years, Irene (Suzie) Johnson of Morristown, SD; four daughters, Deb Kisgen of Loveland, CO, Kandi (Steve) Smith of Normal, IL, Staci (Scott) Stern of Sioux Falls, SD and Jami (Brad Meehan) Kesling of Rapid City, SD; daughter-in-law, Shari Johnson; eleven grandchildren, Cole Johnson, Clay (Hannah) Johnson, Cord (Cassie) Johnson, Stevi (Jake) Weidenbach, Brooke (Matt) Sukalski, Maggie Smith, Mara Smith, Amber (Trent) Arlint, Hillary (Christ) Christopher, Kaitlyn (Trevor) Reinesch, Jakways Mendoza, Georgi Mendoza, Kristan (Zach) Morris and Josef Meehan and eight great grandchildren and two more on the way; two brothers, Alan (Linda) Johnson, Eddie Johnson and two sisters, Gwen (Paul) Huffman and Kathy (Mark) Laberee. He is preceded in death by his mother, Florence Johnson; father, Henry Johnson; brother Alvin Johnson and son Steve Johnson.

Cards can be mailed to Suzie Johnson 3900 S. Terry Ave, APT #186 Sioux Falls, SD, 57106.
