Clyde Swindler, age 96 of Mott, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Mott Good Samaritan Society.

A Private Family Service will be held.

Serving as casketbearers are Clyde's grandchildren, Garret Swindler, Andrea Swindler, Michael Hertz, Landusky Hertz, Victoria Rueles, and great-grandson Jayden Hertz.

CLYDE L. SWINDLER was born on September 30, 1917 to Marion and Hulda (Arvidson) Swindler in Mott, ND, the seventh of ten siblings.

As a young man, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Clyde was a farmer at heart. He started breaking land for his father at a young age and continued farming in Hettinger County for most of his life. He married Helen Sutnik in Mott on June 12, 1944. A hardworking and successful farmer, he took over the family farm and had two children: Sharon and Les (Nadine). As an avid hunter, he went on several hunting trips where he hunted elk, moose, and other big game. For many years, Helen and Clyde wintered in Fountain Hills, AZ. Clyde retired in 1979 and Les took over the family farm.

Clyde was fortunate to see several new advances in farm technology during his lifetime, from breaking land with a steel wheel tractor to seeing GPS and auto steering capabilities.

Clyde will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. He was a very kind and admirable man. He will be fondly remembered for his hunting stories. He also shared stories of pioneering in North Dakota and all his experiences of growing up.

Clyde is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen; his son Les (Nadine) Swindler, Mott, ND; his daughter, Sharon (Hertz) Swindler, Gallup, NM; five grandchildren: Garret (Jennifer) Swindler, Mott, ND; Andrea Swindler, Bismarck, ND; Michael (Bonnie) Hertz, Mott, ND; Landusky (Cindy) Hertz, Dickinson, ND; Victoria Hertz (Rigo) Ruelas, Challis, ID; eleven great grandchildren, two sisters: Sadie Bleick, Mott, ND; Viola Gross, Topeka, KS; one brother, Ray (Pat) Swindler, Hamilton, MT; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; Mary; five brothers: John, Alan, Floyd, Lawrence, and Wilmer; two grandchildren: Kristi and Natalie Hertz.
