CLIFFORD THEODORE WITTE was born on April 14, 1914 at Coal Springs, SD to Theodore J. and Lena (Sundermeyer) Witte. He grew up in the Coal Springs area in their "old rock house' and helped his family on their farm while attending Prairie View rural school. Clifford went to Iowa to work on a farm and was then drafted into the US Army. Clifford was wounded during D-Day and the invasion on the beaches at Normandy, France. Following his service to his country, Clifford returned to the Coal Springs area and began operating the farm on his parent's home place. On December 28, 1955, Clifford was united in marriage to Violet Dreis at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon, SD. They farmed and ranched together until selling their livestock and leasing the land. In March of 1997, Clifford and Violet entered the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon. Violet Witte passed away there in July of 1997. Clifford enjoyed farming and ranching, helping his neighbors and working on his equipment. Clifford Witte passed from this life at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon on August 25, 2005.

Among survivors are his brother, Roy Witte of Lemmon and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Violet, brothers, Clarence, Harold who was killed in action in Korea and Raymond.
