Cleo Myron Berdahl, age 96, of New Leipzig, ND, passed away at the Marian Manor Healthcare Center, in Glen Ullin, ND on November 12, 2013.
Cleo was born September 4, 1917, in Stanton, ND. He was raised and schooled in Dunn Center, ND where he graduated from high school in 1934. After graduation he joined the CCC's and was stationed in Medora, ND and then sent to Northern Minnesota. He served as a surveyor, cook, baker and also was in a dance band.
On October 10, 1937, he married Claire Marie Dawkins and together they raised five children. At this time he was trained and working as a railroad agent with the Northern Pacific Railroad. After a few years of working as a ""relief"" agent which kept him away from home most of the time, he finally earned enough seniority to bid into an actual station which happened to be Sanger, ND. From there the family moved to Heil, ND where we lived for many years. As the railroad stations began to close down, he bid into Flasher and Carson, then on to Wilton, Turtle Lake and finally retiring from Jamestown.
After retirement they lived in Bismarck, Minneapolis, Bozeman, MT and finally back to North Dakota. Cleo and Marie moved to New Leipzig, ND in 2010 and were so happy to be ""home"" again.
He and Marie enjoyed traveling all over after his retirement. He was an avid collector from coins to cigarette lighters. He learned to use the computer at age 80 and spent many hours doing research for his Bible studies. Music was always a big part of his life. He started playing for dances at age 12 and loved to have jam sessions with his friends from Carson.
Survivors include his wife of 76 years, Marie, his son Gerald (Polly) Berdahl, daughters, Amy Berdahl, & Loretta (Mitch) Beck, son Orley (Glenna) Berdahl; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
