His greatest love and passion was farming and ranching. Clay was united in marriage to Marjorie Kroft on May 19, 1943 in Baker, MT and after raising four girls, he would pat Margie's hand and say – "Aren't we lucky, Marge?" Many people will remember him for his sense of humor.

He leaves in this world his loving wife, Marjorie Joyce (Kroft) Wilson, of Hettinger; four daughters, Bonnie (Sam) Inga, of Bismarck, ND, Bev. Marion, of Detroit Lakes, MN, Leah Gunther, of Lodgepole, SD and Rhonda (Steve) Haegele, of Bismarck, ND; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren with two on the way and one sister, Risby Sattler, of Roswell, NM.
