Clarence "John" Gibbons, age 77, of Lemmon, SD, passed away on Saturday morning, October 14, 2023 at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon, SD.

Graveside services for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon, SD.  Tim Holdahl will officiate with military honors afforded by the Brattvet-Green American Legion Post #66.

Clarence John Gibbons, John to his friends and family, was born in Perkins County, SD, on July 15, 1946 to Clarence and Margaret (Hay) Gibbons.  He attended Orange #2 country school northeast of Lemmon then Lemmon High School graduating in 1964. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1971.

He worked on a seismograph crew before purchasing the farm from his folks.  He eventually sold the farm and went to school in Devils Lake which lead to a job working for the NDDOT in Mott, ND.  Clarence retired in 2009 and moved to Lemmon in 2011.  He enjoyed working on lawn mowers and other small engines and listening to old time country music.  He looked forward to visits from his friends and family and loved helping people whenever they needed it.  He loved food, especially hot dishes and hot chocolate.

Due to a decline in health, he entered the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon in 2020.  He passed away there on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the age of 77.

He is survived by his sister, Sylvia Gibbons; and numerous cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Brandon Gibbons; and numerous aunts and uncles.
