Clara passed away at her home in Mott on Sunday evening, June 28, 2009.

Clara Dorotheia Magstadt was born on February 16, 1918, to John & Katherine (Seitz) Magstadt, on a little farm about 15 miles south of New Leipzig, ND.

Her father, John, later got a job as a railroad foreman. This new job lead to many different elementary schools around the state of ND: first and second grade at Crystal Springs, third and fourth grade at Carrington, fifth and sixth grade at Hensler. She was able to come back to the area for seventh grade and finished her schooling by graduating from New Leipzig High School in 1937. While in high school, she lived with her Grandma Dora (Dorotheia Seitz). Clara was very active in high school and also took many different part-time jobs to make a little extra spending money.

In the fall of 1937, she was asked to teach at a rural school near Elgin. She taught for 4 months, until a qualified teacher could be found. After teaching, Clara came to Mott. She worked at the Wick's Hotel and at JC Penny Co. part-time. At the end of 2 years, she got a steady job with JC Penny Co. She enjoyed this very much. She had then made up her mind to go to Bismarck and go to beauty school. At this time, she met George Hardmeyer and let her heart rule.

George and Clara were married on July 9, 1941 at St. Vincent's Church in Mott.

They had a little home in Mott. On May 25, 1943 a son, Claude, was born. In April 1944, they sold their house in town and moved to the farm. They purchased the Charles Merry farm south of Mott. It wasn't easy on the farm. On February 16, 1949 another son, Lowell, was born. He was also a birthday present for Clara.

In February 1960, the family moved into their new home on the farm. They had one of the first houses to run totally on electricity.

Heartache came on June 10, 1970, when Lowell died in the line of duty in Vietnam.
She enjoyed many clubs and activities over the years, but most of all she enjoyed her family.

Surviving family members include: husband George, having graciously shared her life for 68 years, daughter in-law, Ilene Hardmeyer, granddaughter, Nadra & Ben Auch, grandson, Orrin & MaRanda Hardmeyer and her great-grandchildren, Kaden & Kendra Auch, Isabelle & Addison Hardmeyer.

Clara was preceded in death by her sons Lowell (1970) and Claude (2003), 3 brothers (which all died in infancy) and her parents.
