Mass of Christian Burial for Christine Messmer, age 90, of Lemmon, SD, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon, SD.  Fr. Tony Grossenburg will officiate with burial to follow in the Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon.

Viewing will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon.

Our loving mother Christine Messmer, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon, SD, surrounded by family and in a room full of love.

Christine Dorothy Suzanna Rohr was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1927, to Anton and Anna Rohr at the family farm North of Gladstone, ND. She married Joe Messmer on October 16, 1947.

Joe and Christine made their home in Lemmon, SD, where she became the head cleaning lady at Five Counties Hospital until she and Joe established Joe's Plumbing & Heating in 1972. She then became secretary/bookkeeper of their successful business.

Christine was a loving, spunky, and fun mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved her family with all her heart and showed it every day. She loved any family event or gathering including playing cards, cooking and baking. Crocheting, gardening and fishing were some of her favorite activities, but most of all she loved taking care of family.

Grateful for having known her love are Linda (Del) Borchert, Lemmon, SD, Lyle Messmer, Lemmon, SD, Larry Messmer, Belle Fourche, SD, Lori (John) Herold, Bismarck, ND, and Jayne (Rodney) Rieth, West Fargo, ND, her daughter by heart; her grandchildren, Rob Rieth, Chad Rieth, Jodee Ekerberg, Quinton Borchert, Jennifer Marxsen, Josh Borchert, Todd    Messmer, Jonathan Herold, Alex Herold, and Kaylyn Herold; nine great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; sisters Janet (Frank) Sickler, Charlene (Bill) Frank; and brother Richard (Angie) Rohr.

Christine was preceded in death by her husband Joe, parents Anton & Anna Rohr, sisters Lena (Frank) Martin, Anna (Peter) Hollinger, Sue (Joe) Meisner, Margaret (Frank) Martin, Viola (Albert) Sickler, Alvina (Jack) Messmer and brothers Victor (Barbara) Rohr, a son in law Delbert Borchert and grandson-in-law B.J. Marxsen and Rob Ekerberg.

The family wants to give our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Five Counties Nursing Home staff that provided a loving home to Mom after she moved there in 2015. She was loved and cared for by staff and they showed much kindness and compassion to her and us as a family   during her final days.
