CHESTER JACOB OLSON was born on October 23, 1917 to Jacob and Selma (Erickson) Olson at the farmstead located seventeen miles southeast of Mott in Adams County. He attended a rural school and endured the hard times of the thirties hopping freight trains and traveling around South Dakota. Later he worked for the railroad like many others who were looking for work.

On October 14, 1944, Chester married DeLora Gilbert and they made their home on the Olson farmstead where they farmed until 1953. They moved to Mott where he opened an auto-implement dealership that he operated until retiring.

Chester was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mott Lion's Club, and the Cannonball Senior Citizens.

He enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing, playing cards with family and friends, and was especially proud of his many bowling and horseshoe trophies.

Chester passed away on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Mott Good Samaritan Nursing Center.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, DeLora, daughter Marlene and husband Dale Ottmar of Sioux Falls, SD; three sons Duane and wife Noreen, Douglas and wife Cheryl, and Gayle and wife Jodi, all of Mott, ND; 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Floraine, his sister Martha Lince, and two brothers, Donald and Vernon.

Visitation will be Sunday 1:00 to 7:00 pm, Monday 9:00 am to 12 noon at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott.
