Charlotte Marie Feland was born October 8, 1917 at the family home in Sims, North Dakota to Oscar and Nellie (Osland) Feland. Her mother was an accomplished haberdasher and one of the first women to homestead in ND. Charlotte attended country grade school, and high school in Almont and Minneapolis. She was swept off of her feet at a dance by a dashing young rancher named Clarence and they were married Sept. 5, 1936. in Mandan.
Clarence and Charlotte worked at the Thaine School for two years and then farmed 10 miles south of Almont along the beautiful Heart River Valley. They were married sixty wonderful years.
She was active with the First Presbyterian Church of Carson, the Far and Near Homemakers Club, and she served for decades at the annual Almont Lutefisk supper. She was an avid supporter of her son's sports activities and she could frequently be heard cheering from the sidelines.
Charlotte will be remembered for her unconditional love, her wonderful cooking and tremendous hospitality. There was always room for one more at the table for anyone who happened to stop by the Johnson home. Charlotte loved to be outdoors, whether it was working in the yard and garden, watching spring calving or running to town for parts. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and she made each of them feel unique and empowered in their life choices.
