CARRIE ADELINE BREKKE was born April 23, 1911, on the family homestead south of Regent, ND. She was the eldest of four children born to Severt and Alma (Everson) Brekke. Carrie attended school in Regent. She began working at age 12 as a clerk at Christoperson's General Store. Carrie graduated from Regent High School in May of 1930 and went to the summer session at Dickinson State College where she received a teaching diploma. She began teaching school in September of 1930 in a one-room schoolhouse at the Adams County school south of Regent. Carrie continued her education each summer while teaching during the school year until August of 1936, when she received her Lifetime Teaching Certificate. She began teaching first and second grades at the New Leipzig school in the fall of 1936. Carrie taught there until May of 1940.

Upon moving to New Leipzig, Carrie met Victor Provolt. They were united in marriage on June 23, 1940 at Regent, ND. Together, they operated the New Leipzig Telephone Company as well as rooming high school students for other families. Born to this union were three beautiful daughters, Connie, Vicki, and Kay. After the girls were older, Carrie returned to teaching remedial classes at New Leipzig Elementary until her retirement.

Carrie and Victor were able to enjoy winters in Mesa, AZ for 25 years where they were active in their retirement community.

Carrie was an excellent seamstress and sewed lovingly for her girls, granddaughters, and great grandchildren. She was active in the New Leipzig Baptist Church with one of her favorite missions, sewing baby clothes for those in need. She was a self-taught musician and enjoyed playing the piano. She spent many hours at the piano with her grandchildren. Carrie also enjoyed quilting, knitting, and crocheting, where each stitch was completed with love. She was a wonderful cook as well as baker, and enjoyed teaching the family the tricks of her trade. Carrie was a giving woman and shared of herself not only with her family, but to others that were in need.

Keeping her in their fondest memories are her daughters, Connie Springsted, Minot, ND; Vicki Siewert and Kay Provolt, both of Elgin, ND; 3 granddaughers and their families, Vanessa (Springsted) and Gaylyn Dahl, and great granddaughters, Brooke and Jordan, all of Sawyer, ND; Monique (Siewert) and James Johnson, and great grandson, Adam, all of Brooklyn Park, MN; Ressa (Blue) and Ryan Hoerner, and great grandchildren, Brett and Alexandra, all of Bismarck, ND; sister, Agnes Bieri, Minot, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 46 years Victor in July of 1987; 1 sister, Ruth Fontenot, 1 brother, Ernest Brekke, and a son-in-law, Eugene Siewert.

In lieu of flowers, Carrie's family would appreciate memorials donated to the New Leipzig/Elgin Ambulance Service.

Visitation will be Friday, 9:00am to 11:30am MT at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin and one hour prior to services at the New Leipzig Baptist Church.
