Carol attended one year of high school in McLaughlin and three years in McIntosh graduating with the Class of 1957. She attended one year of college in Aberdeen where she earned her teaching certificate. Carol taught for one year at the Riverside School south of Keldron. She met Donald Werner and they were united in marriage on June 10, 1958 at Morristown. They sold the dairy cattle in 2005 and semi-retired.

She enjoyed working in her well groomed yard planting flowers, trees, and a vegetable garden large enough to feed the entire community. She also loved to read, cook, attend auction sales, and go fishing with her family. She will always be remembered by friends and family for her gourmet style Christmas dinners, and for her Angel Food cake with Peanut Butter frosting. Carol also worked extensively compiling the family geneology. She spoke often of her family and how proud she was of them. She enjoyed being "Grandma" to her two grandchildren, Dustin and Jenna.

Carol was a member of St. John's Paradise Lutheran Church, was a leader of the Dakota Kids 4-H Club, and a local card club.
