Carmen Balderramos was born June 7, 1924 in Scottsbluff Nebraska. She was the daughter of Antonio and Delores (Ortiz) Balderramos and the first-born of eight children. After meeting Alvino G. Martinez in South Dakota, they were married in Belle Fourche on July 4, 1954. Carmen and Alvino made their home in Belle Fourche and after the children were grown, Carmen worked for many years at Bob's Café and the Hampton Hotel in Belle Fourche.

Carmen will be remembered for being a quiet and independent woman who was a great cook. She was a hard worker and a devoted wife and mother. She was a wonderful grandmother as well and enjoyed keeping her grandchildren well fed. For many years, Carmen took care of her husband and family, and now for the past few years they took good care of her. She will be greatly missed by Alvino and her family, and she will forever be treasured by them all.
