He was born August 13, 1946 in Elgin, ND to Walter and Inez (Beck) Roth. Brian attended Delabarre rural school until 7th grade, graduated from New Leipzig High School in 1964, and joined the US Army. He was proud of his military service and was actively involved with the Baesler-Achtenberg American Legion Post #211 in New Leipzig.
He married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Schafer, on December 22nd, 1967. They lived in Beach and then Dickinson, ND until 1972, when they decided to move back to New Leipzig to farm with his father and brother. In 1979, they purchased the family farm and moved there in 1981 where they continued the dairy business until 1986 and later had range cattle and small grains. He retired from farming in 1995 but was always actively working to maintain the condition of the family farm. As a 3rd generation owner, he was proud of his farm and the fact that it is located at the former town site of Odessa, ND.
In 1989, Brian began his career in the crop adjusting and crop insurance industries and proudly continued being a crop adjuster up to his passing. Brian's dedication to the farmers continued even when he was in the hospital where he stated that the first thing he wanted to do when he was discharged was to finish his remaining claims for this season.
Brian was a strong advocate for quality water in Grant County. In 1991, he went door-to-door getting signatures for connecting to the Southwest Pipeline Project. He was elected to Southwest Water Authority's Board of Directors since its forming in 1992 and has represented Grant County for over 29 years. For his efforts, he received the North Dakota Water Wheel Award by the ND Water Users Association and ND Water Resource Districts Association. More recently, he stated that he was pushing for the last few local families and the area around Lake Tschida to receive Southwest Water before he finished this term. He was ready to step down and let someone else fill the role.
In 1993, Brian began driving for the US Postal Service where he was a substitute rural driver for the Mott area before officially retiring from that role in 2018.
Over the years, Brian was also active with the Grant County Weed Board (1981-1999), Secretary of the New Leipzig Rural Fire Protection District (2005-Present), and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church (1972-Present). People always knew he was in attendance when they heard him singing. He and Gloria sang together for weddings, anniversaries, funerals and other community events.
Brian absolutely adored his grandchildren. He loved attending their events and was their loudest fan. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and decorating the farm for Christmas where he turned Odessa into a winter wonderland.
Brian is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Gloria, New Leipzig, ND; children Troy (Jodi) Roth, Bismarck, ND, Trent (Michelle) Roth, Saint Michael, MN, and Amy (Nathan) Schmidt, Great Falls, MT; grandchildren Kenzie Gullickson, Reagan and Kambree Roth, Kynsie, Brennen, and Logan Schmidt, Callie, Elliott, and Grant Roth; siblings JoAnn (Thomas) Jacobsen, Hettinger, ND, James (Rachelle) Roth, Redmond, OR, Arlen (Carrie) Roth, New Leipzig, ND, Karen (Duane) Pierce, Scranton, ND, Dennise (Larry) Rivinius, Lake Placid, FL, Marcy (Morris) Haase, New Leipzig, ND and many nieces and nephews.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Darlene Bader, Arliss Roth, and Joel Roth, brother-in-law Ray Bader and sister-in-law Joleen Roth.
