Bonnie was born on April 6, 1925 in Lemmon, SD, the oldest of six children born to Earl Scott and Anna Bertha Martha (Weinkauf) Penfield. She grew up in Lemmon where she attended school and graduated from Lemmon High School. After graduating from high school, Bonnie married William S. Kile, formerly of Redfield, SD and a long time resident of Lemmon on June 16, 1943 in Lemmon. They both attended Northwest Bible College for 2 years. Bill and Bonnie bought her grandfather's homestead in Shadehill where they raised their seven children. Bonnie was a strong willed woman who was always on the go and doing her own thing. After the death of her husband Bill, she continued to reside on the family farmstead and was a very independent woman.
Bonnie touched many lives with her quiet faith and caring heart of service to others. Over the years she worked for her father at his sale barn, for the telephone company as a long distance operator, at the truck stop as a waitress, and for her brother, Bob, in various capacities, including bookwork at the Home Base Auction. She served lunch at various auctions and the monthly Cowboy Opry. She also served as a Perkins County election board official.
Bonnie was a strong Christian of great faith and a life member of the Prairie Hills Church of God in Lemmon, SD where she served faithfully in several areas.
Bonnie has been fighting cancer for the past six months. God saw she was getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around her and whispered, "Come with me." With tearful eyes, we watched her suffer and saw her fade away. Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest it broke our hearts to let her go. Bonnie was the best.
Surviving family members include her seven children; William Earl and Doris Kile of Lemmon; David B. and Shirley Kile, Bangor, Maine; Kay V. and Larry Sanders, Hettinger; Linda J. Frerking; Elizabeth A. and Bob Bowen; Bruce A. and Deb Kile; and Winona Faye Kellogg; all of Lemmon; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters and 1 brother-in-law, Ruth Quail, Hettinger; Betty Davis, Arizona City, AZ; and Samantha Landy, Indian Wells, CA; Yvonne and Bill Shockley, Arizona City, AZ; 1 brother and sister in law, Robert (Bob)and Winona Penfield of Bowman, ND; all of whom love her very much.
