Bjorne, or Tiny as he was called, was born January 12, 1931 to Thore and Birdie Naaden, Braddock, ND, the youngest of eight children. Thore came to this country from Stavanger, Norway, at the age of three. With his parents, Tiny moved from their Braddock ranch home to Bismarck during his sophomore year. He graduated from Bismarck High in 1949 excelling in music and sports. He enjoyed maintaining his many friendships with classmates by attending class reunions.
Following graduation from BSC and NDSU, he taught one year at the Chaffee High School, was an assistant county agent at Dickinson, then returned to NDSU to study for an advanced degree in agriculture economics. This resulted in a career of accounting and tax consultation to ranchers and farmers primarily in the Taylor-Mott-Regent area. He founded the West River Accounting and Tax Service, practicing his profession in the community of Mott in the 1960's to 1998. Several summers he also served as a hail crop adjustor in neighboring states as well as locally. He was a licensed Dale Carnegie instructor for several classes in the Fargo area during his early married years in that city.
Tiny was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1981 but he was able to continue the work he loved for a number of years before entering the Baptist Nursing Home in Bismarck September 2005. Prior to that he was in and out of caring facilities for short periods of time at Mott, Richardton and Steele, primarily because of falling injuries related to Parkinson's. Whatever the facility, Tiny was always a favorite, well liked by workers and staff. His gentle nature was attractive to those he met. He took life as it was handed to him. He was kind and content. Once his wife asked him why he picked a feisty gal like her and his response was ""I like you the way you are.""
Tiny gave of his time and talents in a variety of ways while living in Mott with his growing family. He was handy in any kitchen, especially enjoying serving pancakes at Lions Club suppers, roasting a pig in an earth overn, or creating a pizza with Bread Bakery dough at home. He was a Boy Scout Leader which included camp-outs in Montana, Canada and a ski trip to the Black Hills with co-leader Dr. Hankins. He was a patient fisherman, never grumbling when the fish didn't bite. He enjoyed golf, hunting big game with bow and arrow with Taylor friends, pencil sketching and oil painting including a large portrait of his dad. He sang in choirs and quartets. He was fond of gardening, especially growing corn and carrots on Harry Potts' plot in West Mott's rich soil. He washed the dishes and swept the floors when his wife was busy circulating Right to Life petitions or writing a story.
He studied the Bible and was a lay preacher in small churches for a time, a Sunday school teacher of adult classes and a superintendent. He had an understanding of the book of Revelation.
Bjorne married Betty Beierle, a North Dakota farm girl and a recent graduate of UND where she was employed as a case worker with Children's Village in Fargo. After a courtship of five months they were engaged and married the following year on August 23, 1957 at McCabe Methodist church in Bismarck. Following five years in Fargo, they moved to Bismarck for five years, glad to be close to their widowed mothers for a time, then moved to Mott in l967. The marriage was blessed with three children, Brian Thore, Paul Robert and Suzanne Robin. Tragically in 1980, Paul 19 and Suzanne 17, died in two separate accidents.
Tiny is survived by his wife Betty, Bismarck, son Brian (Joy) Pella, Iowa, grandchildren, Lindsey, Des Moines, IA, Connor, Nashville, Tenn., and Spencer at home, one sister, Sue (Grant) Sherritt, State College, PA., one brother Pete (Mary Ellen) Braddock, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
