BETTY LOU STROUP was born February 20, 1932 in Spencer, Nebraska to John and Catherine (Hull) Stroup. Betty and David Veit were married on January 9, 1950 in Dupree, SD. They settled on the old homestead near Glad Valley, SD where they ranched and farmed most of their lives. When they left the old homestead, Betty worked at the Dupree School Library. She also started working on a degree in education. She graduated from Black Hills State University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in education accompanied with a minor in Library Science. After getting her degree she spent 15 years working in the Faith Public School Library.

One of her major accomplishments during that time was writing a grant that helped to build a new library for the Faith Community. Betty received many plaques and certificates of recognition for her dedication to education. She touched the lives of many young people during her years of working in the library. Her love for reading has been instilled into the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. On March 9, 1997, Betty had two heart attacks, but with a miracle from God her family was given almost ten more years to be touched by her wisdom and love.

Betty's passions were spending time with her family, the library, reading, collecting bears, and painting. She enjoyed collecting teddy bears almost as much as her family enjoyed giving them to her. While getting her education she found she had a special talent for painting. Her husband framed and hung a couple of his favorite paintings in their home.

Betty is survived by her children, Linda (Kevin) Mount, David J. (Reena)
Veit, Nora (Brent) Kertzman, Kathy (David) Mraz, Sandy (Leon) Engel, Cheryl
(Steve) Keller, Patty (Buck) Murtha, Janet (Craig) Scully, Wenelle (True)
Clown II, Wynette Towery, Wileen Black Lance, and Tracy (Wendy) Veit; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one sister, Doris (Jim) Bieber, three
sisters-in-law, Treva Braithwaite, Irene Veit, Gloria Perrin, and Dave's
step-father, Seb Schily.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband David on December 22, 2002; her parents, and 1 brother, Kenneth Stroup.

Betty will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the community. Her
whole life revolved around teaching, educating, and promoting reading to all
whose lives she touched. She felt if you could read you could succeed, with any goal you desired.
