BETTY LOU DRAPER was born September 20, 1938 in McIntosh, SD to Joseph and Bertha (Bleth) Draper. She attended grade school in Watauga and high school in McIntosh. She grew up in Watauga and later was united in marriage to Benjamin Schell on September 8, 1956. They moved to Lead, SD where Benny Joe and Donnie where born. The little family then moved to Belle Fourche where Debbie and Barbie arrived. One more move to McIntosh and along came Brad, Brian, Rickey, and Rebecca.
Betty Lou was a devoted mother baking homemade bread, caramel rolls, and elephant tracks and not to forget cheese buttons. After all the kids were in school, she started cooking at the Hilltop Café and later at the Only Tavern and the BJs Restaurant and Lounge. She was famously known around town for her knoephla soup but to her family it was her brownies with homemade chocolate frosting and especially her pickles.
She had many hobbies ranging from crocheting, quilting, baking, buying socks for her grandchildren, and shopping at Walmart.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren held a very special place in her heart. She loved teaching them how to crochet, sew and cook. She will forever be remembered going out sitting on her deck and eating her Russian Peanuts. Her favorite thing in the world was spending time with the love of her life of 57 years, Benny. Their favorite place to be was camping in their motor home and out fishing on the boat. She loved teasing him when she would catch more walleyes then him.
She entered Heavens Gates on July 4, 2013 at the age of 74 years, 9 months, and 14 days.
