June 30,2024- GOD added another precious piece to his puzzle.  Betty decided it was a good day to join her mom-Mathilda & dad- Henry on a fishing trip & have a cheese sandwich & a cold bottle of PEPSI.  Betty Carol Hillius was born at home on 12-12-1941. She got meningitis & from complications got cerebral palsy.  That never stopped Betty from enjoying life on the farm, going to Cowan school & doing what she wanted.  When her dad retired & they moved to Elgin the family took their camper on many vacations.

One trip to the southern most part of Mexico found Betty & her mom stranded with their camper & a broken down car.  Her dad took many Mexican buses back to the USA & was able to get parts & returned to fix the car & safely get everyone back home to North Dakota.  That was the last trip taken.   During her wanderings around the farm she could be seen being followed by a herd of cats. Many fishing trips were taken & cheese sandwiches eaten. Her mom made cheese sandwiches for everyone's fishing trips. Even if no one was catching fish you could be sure Betty caught one.

After her dad passed away Betty & her mom made many trips to Clarence & Paul's farm during lambing season.  When her mom passed away Betty continued to live by herself. She made many trips to Montana to visit relatives & to Bismarck to see movies. She also took the Methodist  "Church" ladies on outings, usually not telling anyone until returning home. She enjoyed going on many Farmers Union "Mystery" bus tours –especially going to Branson. You could always find Betty pulling weeds in her flower beds, she loved her flowers.  When Betty was ready she made the decision to move to JMHCC. Where she enjoyed giving everyone a bad time, playing games & winning a lot, , putting puzzles together & just socializing,  The last 6 months the amazing care center workers definitely found out just  how much an independent, hard headed stubborn German Betty truly was.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Reuben, sisters-in-law—Mary & Mavis, nephews- Mike & Steve and niece-Debbie.

Surviving  relatives include—brother Clarence, nephews-Paul (Pam) & Keith. Numerous cousins , great nieces & nephews scattered all over.
