Betty Ellis Durr was born September 15, 1927 in Norwich, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Henry and Myra (Ellis) Durr. Betty lived in Norwich until she was eleven years old at which time she moved with her family to Belle Fourche. Betty attended the Belle Fourche Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1945. After high school, Betty attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie. While attending school in Laramie, Betty and Glenn Broadhurst developed a loving friendship. They were married on December 12, 1946 in Broadus Montana and they were blessed with 60 years of marriage. To this union, three daughters were born, Sue, Jean, and Amy.

Following their marriage, Betty and Glenn farmed and ranched with Glenn's father near Belle Fourche for ten years. In 1956 they purchased their own farm and ranch on the upper Red Water Road area. In 1980 they retired and built a home just 2 miles down the road where they lived for many years. They moved into town just a few years ago.

Betty and Glenn farmed and ranched most of their married lives. They also farmed a large garden that grew up to 14 thousand onion plants at one time. Memories of that garden will linger for many years, especially with the grandchildren as they helped grandpa and grandma with the chores. Betty also enjoyed canning, and her flower gardens. She was a woman of great faith and will be remembered for her trust in God and her walk with Him as well. She was an inspiration to others always carried a concern for her family and friends. Betty was a committed Christian, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved her family and they loved her back. She will be greatly missed by them all.

Betty is survived by her husband, Glenn of Belle Fourche; daughters, Sue Whitman of Belle Fourche, Jean (Bruce) Althoff of Great Falls MT, Amy (Kim) Hallock of Montana; 6 grandchildren, Tami (Scott) Ryan of Belle Fourche, Rob (Lacey) Henwood of Belle Fourche, Bill (Lesa) Jewett of Belle Fourche, Tyler (Sally) Jewett of Belle Fourche, Frank (Kiersten) Kosters of Montana, Steve Kosters of Black Hawk; and 15 great grandchildren.
