Betty Baesler died Monday, January 9, at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Elizabeth Catherine Heupel was born in St. Paul, MN on Febuary 3, 1926, to Rudolf and Ida (Looch) Heupel. Rudolf was attending the Lutheran Seminary at the time. He then took a call to New Leipzig, ND, and Betty spent the rest of her life there until she moved to Fargo in October of 2010 to be near her daughter, Judy, and her family.
Betty married her High School sweetheart, Elmer Baesler, December 18, 1945, and they spent their next year's raising their three children on the family farm.
Betty dearly loved her Lord and reflected that in everyone she touched. She constantly reminded her children through their lives that He was good and would never leave us or forsake us. She was very active in her church, Trinity and then Immanuel Lutheran in New Leipzig. She loved to sing in the choir, teach Sunday school, attend Bible studies, and help serve many, many meals for the events held at the church and social gatherings.
She lived at Elim Care Center this past year where she so generously gave of her beautiful smile and kindness to all she met.
Betty loved to read and always longed to do more of it. At Elim she always had her nose in a book, sometimes in bed with her little light on, when everyone else was asleep. She loved flowers and gardening and her family always knew she made the best kuchen in North Dakota.
She will be so dearly missed by her brother, Herman Heupel of Blue Earth, MN, 2 children: Ron (Lin) Baesler of Orange County, CA, and Judy (Jarl) Iverson of Fargo, ND, and daughter-in-law Marci Baesler of Rapid City, SD; 10 grandchildren: Christopher (Michelle), Joshua, Alicia, Sara (Matt), Justin (Amanda), Jennifer (Ezra), Rebecca (Nathan), Elizangela (Dominic), Rachel (Derek) and Toby; and Greatgrandchildren: Hannah, Alexa, Jessie, Eli, and Madison.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Elmer; 2 sons, Larry and infant Mitchell; one Great grandson, Samuel, and 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
The funeral service will be Saturday, January 14, at 2:00 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Leipzig, ND. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery north of New Leipzig.
A memorial has been established to Habitat for Humanity or the Ronald McDonald House.
