Bennie L. Swanston, age 75, of McIntosh, SD, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 21, 2021 in McIntosh, SD.

Bennie "Ben" Lester Swanston was born on February 3, 1946, in Elgin, ND, to Albert and June (Johnson) Swanston.

He graduated from McIntosh High School in 1963.  Ben was drafted into the United States Army and served his basic training at Ft. Leonardwood, MO.  He then served at Ft. Lewis, WA.  He was honorably discharged in 1967.  Ben then worked for Dave Gustufson Construction on Interstate 90, building bridges.

Ben was united in marriage to Laretta Price on November 28, 1980.  To this union two daughters were born; Danielle and Tanya.

Ben did building construction around McIntosh for several years until his retirement.  He enjoyed restoring antiques.

He is survived by his daughters, Danielle Weaver and Tanya Swanston, both of Rapid City, SD; brothers, Bruce (Mary) Swanston, Redding, CA and Paul (Gail) Swanston, Aberdeen, SD; adopted children, Tracie Foss, Piedmont, SD and Justin Swanston, Buffalo, WY; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen (Robert) Hanson and LeAnn (Dan) Hughes; and one brother, Larry Swanston.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the McIntosh City Cemetery in McIntosh, SD.  Pastor Tottie Lenerville will officiate with military honors afforded by the Ralph T. Ankerson American Legion Post #139 of McIntosh, SD.
