Barbara Jane Luger, 83, of Hettinger, ND, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Coffee and Kuchen Fellowship for Barb will be Friday, May 2, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church on Airport Road in Hettinger, ND. Memorial Service of Remembrance will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Church with Pastor Laurie Kidd, officiating.
Born on September 3, 1941, in Sidney, Montana, Barb was the youngest of 12 children born to Fred and Anna (Damm) Miller. She spent her early years in Fairview, ND before the family moved to Sidney, where she graduated from Sidney High School.
Barb pursued higher education at Dickinson State University with aspirations of becoming a teacher. It was there she met Larry Luger and they married on September 3, 1960, and began their life together in Fargo, ND, while Larry attended NDSU. His career led the family through several North Dakota communities—including Valley City, Garrison, Cooperstown—and ultimately to Hettinger in 1971, where they put down lasting roots.
Barb was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Larry raised three children: James (1965), Suzanne (1967), and William (1969). Throughout her life, Barb embraced many roles: Homemaker, Home Daycare Provider, and Administrative Secretary at both Dakota Western Bank and West River Medical Center.
Barb's life was rich with friendship, community involvement, and creative passions. Known for her kindness and uplifting spirit, she had a gift for making others feel valued. She was actively involved in Homemakers, church groups, coffee gatherings, golfing and volunteering. Her green thumb was evident in her flourishing gardens and beautiful flowerbeds. She also loved crocheting, quilting, knitting, and sewing—skills she shared generously with family and friends. Her homemade buns, caramel rolls, and beloved German dishes were staples at family gatherings.
A lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan, Barb proudly wore her purple and gold, cheering on her team with enthusiasm.
Barb is survived by her children: Jim (Debbie) Luger, Suzanne (Dennis) Dynneson, and William (Ana) Luger; grandchildren: Matthew, Sarah, and Joseph; step-grandchildren: Sonya, Ian, and Brandi; and several great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind siblings Leona, Bob, Annie, and Leo; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry and siblings: Albert, Bill, Freda, Carl, Pauline, Alfred and Jim.
Barb's legacy of love, warmth, and laughter lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
