Arthur Lester Johnson was born on March 7, 1911 in Minneapolis, MN to Anton and Louise Bollen Johnson. At the age of three months he accompanied his family to a homestead in the Athboy community, 45 miles SE of Lemmon. There he received his education and as a young man farmed, carried mail and built homes with his father.

He married Edith J. Anderson in April, 1937 in Lemmon. He worked for Peterson Implement in Lemmon and was with that firm for 49 years. The Johnson's had one daughter, Ardeth (Sue). Edith passed away in 1973 and after Art retired he moved to Belle Fourche where he was married in Oct. of 1983 to Lucille Lindstad.

In his retirement years, he spent his time going to garage sales, auctions and bargain hunting. He always enjoyed talking about John Deere tractors and all the machinery he assembled and delivered to area farmers and ranchers. He was very proud of his work experiences and had a keen eye for a bargain.

His daughter Ardeth passed away in 1991, and his wife Lucille in 2001. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Alice Engler and his son in law Lauren "Bud" Kristianson.

Art continued living in Belle Fourche with the support of his Lindstad family and appreciated the outstanding care while living at Judy's Assisted Living.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews, his step children; Wayne (Teresa) Lindstad, Joan (Paul) Dingeman and Janice Helmer all of Spearfish and Betsy (Dick) Moseley of Belle Fourche; as well as 4 generations of step grandchildren.
