Obituary

Arthur Joseph Brewer, age 81, of Lemmon, SD, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. Services are pending and will be held at a later date.

Art was born in Porcupine, SD on April 29, 1934. He was the first of twelve children born to Arthur Joseph and Lula (Mills) Brewer. When he was four years old, he acquired a neurological condition that prevented further mental development. Art and his family lived in Pine Ridge, SD until 1943. At that time, Art moved to Redfield, SD where he resided at SDDC-Redfield (formerly Redfield State Hospital and School). He resided there until moving to Lemmon, SD in October of 1986.

While in Lemmon, Art was a participant at LIVE, Inc. He worked a variety of jobs in his lifetime, mostly consisting of assembly or bench work jobs. Art was a very social person and enjoyed the social aspect of every task he performed. He enjoyed joking with others and his smile was infectious. For the past few years prior to his death, he had retired and participated in many recreational and leisure activities through LIVE's retirement program. Some of Art's favorite things in life were participating in Special Olympics, watching basketball games, going for rides in the country, rodeos, shopping trips and his many "girlfriends". It made him very happy and excited when he would make trips to Rapid City to spend time with his family.

Arthur is survived by brothers, Donald (JoAnne) and Larry (Paulette) both of Phoenix, Arizona, Darrell (Twila), Denver, Colorado, John (Renee), Rapid City, Patricia (Darell) Twiss, Manderson, SD, and Randolph (Pam), Ann Arbor, Michigan, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three very close and supportive, wonderful aunties, Emmeline Keith, Leona Stabler and Sylvia Nelson who often attended our family gatherings with Arthur. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur, and mother, Lula; brothers, Walter and Douglas, and sisters, Geraldine Hagerman, Linda Adams and Donna Chavez.

Holding him in their fondest memories are his many friends at LIVE, Inc.
