Arnold
Schmitt
Feb 5, 1936 — Sep 4, 2026
Mott
A recording of Arnie's service will be uploaded to this page later on.
Arnold "Arnie" Reinhold Schmitt, 90, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, at Jacobson Care Center with his family at his side. He was born February 5, 1936, in Mott, North Dakota, to Otto Schmitt and Elizabeth Klein Schmitt.
Arnie grew up on the family homestead just south of Mott. He attended country school before continuing his education at the school in Mott. From an early age, he developed a strong connection to the land and the ranching way of life that would remain an important part of who he was throughout his life.
Arnie proudly served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962. Following his military service, he returned to the family homestead, where he devoted himself to farming and ranching. A hardworking and dedicated rancher, Arnie raised Simmental cattle and took great pride in caring for the land and livestock that had been part of his family's heritage.
In 1981, Arnie married Janet Frank, and together they shared more than four decades of life, family, and memories. Janet remained his loving companion throughout their years together.
When he was young, Arnie loved water skiing with friends and enjoyed the friendships and good times that came with it. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic, his dedication to ranching, and his deep connection to the family homestead. Arnie would absolutely love to meet up for coffee in town with his friends! He'd really enjoy catching up and spending some time together.
Arnie is survived by his wife, Janet; his step children, Rick Pollack (Kim), Shayne Pollack (Karen), Darin Pollack (Marcie), and Shari Frith (Jeff); 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his sister, Luella Ridl.
He was preceded in death by his stepson, Mike Pollack (Ethel); his sister, Irene Ulven; and his parents, Otto Schmitt and Elizabeth Klein Schmitt.
Funeral services for Arnie will take place on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. MT at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mott, ND. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial is scheduled for Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. CT at the ND Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan, ND.
Arnie's life was rooted in family, the land he loved, and the hard work he embraced. His memory will live on through his family, the ranch, and the generations who carry his legacy forward.
