Arne I. Gronlund, age 100 of Watauga, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 30, 2018 at his home north of Watauga, SD.

The Funeral Service for Arne will be held at 2:00pm MT, Monday June 4, 2018 at the Prince of Peace Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon.  Pastor Audie Brockel will officiate with burial in the Watauga Cemetery.

Serving as casketbearers are Clifford Johnson, Scott Katus, Pat Nehl, Jim McGregor, Nick Nehl, and Fred Bubbers.

Arne Gronlund was born on August 18, 1917 to Hans and Anna (Halvorson) Gronlund on the homestead in Sioux Co., ND north of Watauga, SD.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Watauga Lutheran Church.

He attended a country school through the eighth grade. After that, he helped his dad on the farm.  In 1946, he took over his parents' farm when they retired and moved into Watauga.  Arne worked hard on the farm for many years and helped numerous friends in many ways.

He enjoyed working on the farm, dancing, and visiting with his neighbors.

In 2011, due to health, he wasn't able to continue working on the farm, so caretakers stay with him so he could continue to live in his own home.

Surviving family members include his 2 sisters, Ethel Bubbers and Ruth Katus, both of Lemmon, SD; a sister-in-law, Jean Dirk, Spearfish, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Einar; two brothers-in-law, Wendell Bubbers and Paul Katus, one nephew and two great nephews.

Visitation will be on Monday from 8:00am to the time of the funeral service at 2:00pm.
