Obituary

Memorial services for Arlen C. Auen, age 85, Williston, ND, formerly of Mott, ND, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Mott, ND, with Pastor Steve Meckle, officiating.

Arlen Claude Auen, 85, of Williston, North Dakota, passed away Saturday morning, March 17, 2018 at the Bethel Lutheran Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Williston.

Arlen Claude Auen was born on February 27, 1933 to Claude and Laura Auen of Mott, ND the first of 5 boys. Arlen only had an eighth grade level of education which never was a disability to him in his eyes nor anyone else.

The year of 1947 Arlen signed up for the Army National Guard in Mott and served until 1951 with an Honorable Discharge.

The fall of 1954 he married Irene Schmitt of Mott. He at that time worked around the Mott area on several different farms and as a mechanic at the Mott Equity until the early 60's. He moved his family to Bismarck and started driving semi-trucks for a way to make a living and support his family. His driving career took him too many places and many miles cris-crossing the United States. Arlen moved his family many times from Bismarck to Williston, Tioga, Watford City and Fairview, MT. In the early 80's he divorced and moved back to Williston for the rest of his life until his passing. In 1994 Arlen was awarded the North Dakota Truck Driver of the year award which is the highest award a semi driver can receive for a lifelong career of driving safe.

Arlen was a member of the American Legion for many years. He was also a member of the Color Guard Team who for many years did parades, special events and funeral honors. Arlen's passion was tinkering on motors and thrashing bees.

His survivors are Arlen Auen Jr. of Denver, CO, Debbie Zentner of Williams, MN and Kevin Mieling of Williston; his 4 brothers, Hugo, Rodger, Robert and Lewis; his grandkids, Jessica Hruby of Roosevelt MN, Amanda Thompson of Bonham, TX, Kyle Mieling of Williston and Laken Mieling of Bismarck; four great-grandkids, Brody and Maddylyn Hruby, Otis and Iris Thompson; and special friend, Barbara Mieling.
