ANNIE M. LOCKERT was born March 10, 1926 at Meadow, SD, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Hulm) Lockert, the youngest of ten children. She was named after her godmother, Mrs Frank (Anna Mary) Hulm. She was four years old when her father was killed in an auto accident. She grew up on the family farm northwest of Meadow and attended Thompson School, Meadow Central, and Lemmon High School. Annie was united in marriage to August Christman on October 1, 1946 in Dubuque, IA. Together they farmed and ranched ten miles northwest of Lemmon and raised their three children, Kathleen Elizabeth, Dennis Lee, and William Joseph.

Annie was a wonderful mother who provided a loving home for her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the greatest joys of her life. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed feeding her family and friends traditional German dishes. Annie was a beautiful seamstress and sewed for many people over the years. She was blessed with a gift of music and could play piano and organ by ear. She loved to dance and sing, and was a member of her church choir. Her favorite pastime was playing cards with her friends Dolores, Martha, Mavis, and many other friends. She was a 4-H leader for several years and a long-time member of the Live and Learn Homemakers Club, American Legion Auxiliary, St. Mary's Catholic Church, and St. Gabriel's Circle. August died suddenly of a heart attack on January 13, 1975 and Annie moved into Lemmon for the remainder of her life. She had many surgeries and health problems over the past several years and entered Five Counties Nursing Home in September of 2002. She died there peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday February 19, 2006 at the age of 79 years, 11 months, 9 days.
