Alvin Will, age 82, of Elgin, ND, passed away on Sunday morning, August 18, 2024 at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin, ND.

Funeral services for Alvin will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Ebenezer United Church of Christ north of Elgin, ND.  Pastor David Skjoldal will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery.   A time of fellowship and luncheon will be held at the Elgin Community Center following the burial.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Alvin Adolph Will was born south of Mott on March 1, 1942 to Adolph and Bertha Will. He joined his brothers, Ervin and Melvin, and his sisters, Lorraine and Mildred. His younger sister, Donna, joined the family the following year.

Alvin went to area country schools but never finished high school, as he was needed on the farm, when his father started to lose his eyesight. On November 1, 1964, Alvin married Marian Miller, who had moved from Hazen to be a nurse at the Elgin Hospital. They were married almost 40 years until Marian died of cancer in 2004. They had a daughter, Melissa, in 1965 and a son, Kevin, in 1970.

Alvin was active in his younger years with the Elgin Fire District, as a Buckskin township director, and in the Ebenezer United Church of Christ.

Milking was in Marian's blood, and in 1971, she convinced him to start selling milk. That started Alvin's career as a dairy farmer, and he now has the last dairy farm in Grant County.

Alvin loved farming. He liked being out in the field in a tractor or tinkering in the shop on equipment. Farming was his life, and even from his recliner, looking out the window, he made sure things got done.

Dogs were his soft spot. He loved his boys and made sure they were fed well, sharing his supper, hot dogs, sausage, and vanilla cookies.

Alvin spent the last six weeks in the nursing home after a fall at home and passed away on August 18, 2024.

He leaves behind his son, Kevin; daughter, Melissa; sister, Donna Worcester; brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Ruth Will; his in-laws, Carolyn and Don Feldman, Joyce and Jerry Bloms, and Carol Miller; Max and Laurie Miller; Marian's uncle, Leslie Miller; and many nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind his boys, Oscar, Charlie, and Gus.

Preceding him in death is his wife, Marian; his parents; his in-laws, Ruth and Harold Miller; brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Esther Will; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine and Ervin Sprenger, Mildred and Norman Leischner, and brothers- in-law, Mark Worcester and George Miller.
