ALVIN MORRIS SKAARVOLD was born August 20, 1918 on a farm northeast of Hettinger, ND on his parents homestead. He attended school in Hettinger through the eighth grade and then had to stay home on the farm to help his father.
Alvin joined the Civilian Conservation Corp where he served in Montana and Utah. He returned to live on a farm south of Fargo, ND, but had a desire to live in western North Dakota so he moved back and worked on some land he and his younger brother, Marvin bought. Alvin later moved into Hettinger and worked at a service station. He met Ardis Quamme who was working in a legal office and they were married in October of 1947.
Alvin and Ardis began their life together in Hettinger while he worked for the State of ND in the Public Service Commission in Bismarck. He traveled the western half of the State inspecting scales and meters during the week. After his retirement, Alvin was called to help and give information to many companies in the area.
Alvin loved the Lord and was looking forward to meeting Him. Alvin M. Skaarvold passed from this life at the Hillcrest Care Center in Hettinger on January 2, 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Ardis, of Hettinger; sons, Lee (Suzanne) Skaarvold, of Omak, WA, Jay (Marilyn) Skaarvold, of Hettinger, ND and Todd (Myong) Skaarvold, of Rapid City, SD; one brother, Marvin (Lucille) Skaarvold, of Colfax, ND; one sister, Olga Malin, of Quartzite, AZ; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
