Alta Christen, age 98 Aberdeen, formerly of Lemmon, SD died Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Aberdeen.

The Funeral Service for Alta will be held at 2:00pm CT on Sunday, October 14, 2018 in the Chapel at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave, Aberdeen, SD with Pastor Kevin Bergeson, officiating.

There will be a visitation on Monday, October 15, from 9:00 to 1:00pm MT at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon prior to the burial at 1:00pm MT at Greenhill Cemetery with Pastor Charlotte Kvale, officiating.

Alta Marcia Bleick was born January 16, 1920 at Elgin, ND to Frank J. and Alvena (Schomer) Bleick.  She grew up and received her education in Elgin, ND. She became a telephone operator with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Lemmon, SD where she was working when she met "Doc" Christen. On March 2, 1941 she was united in marriage to H.J. "Doc" Christen in Hosmer, SD. The two resided in Lemmon, SD. Together they loved to golf and sang in the Calvary Lutheran Church choir for years. Alta was an avid bridge player and a member of Chapter AH P.E.O. of Lemmon. She moved to Aberdeen in 2010 to be closer to her daughter.

Grateful for sharing in her life are her daughter, Dianne (Lonny) Helfinstine of Aberdeen, SD; stepson Arden (Joan) Christen of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren Jeff Odell, Jan (Chris) Hugh, Cyndi (Scott) Bishop, Barbara Brunetti, Penny (Kenny) Fallee, Sarah (Daryl) Johnson, great-grandchildren Cody Fipps, Ashlyn Bishop, Andrew Bishop, and 13 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, stepson, Charles Christen, and granddaughter, Becky Freed.
