Allen Sprenger, age 93, of Elgin, ND, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 22, 2021.
Private family services will be held.
James Allen Sprenger was born on January 13, 1928, the 11 th child of Christian and Martha Sprenger. Sets of twins were born shortly before and soon after he was born so his aunt and family took care of him for a few years. They called him Allen and that name stayed with him. Dad grew up on his parents' farm and farming grew in him too.
In his early teens, Dad attended a Christian Endeavor meeting where he understood the need to accept Jesus as his own personal Savior. When he met Ellen Schroeder, love grew quickly and they were married on June 30, 1948. They moved to a farm two miles from Dad's home and that was where Dad called home the rest of his life. Dwight, Evonne, and Cindy were raised there.
Dad worked hard but he enjoyed doing what he did and leaving home was harder than staying there. Dad was fun and he loved his family and cared well for each one. Dad liked people and could talk with almost anyone and make them feel comfortable. When he saw the struggles that especially younger men were going through, he tried to encourage them and to show them that their greatest need was to have God in their lives.
Dad was very lonely after Mom died in 1994. He married Elfriede Neubauer and they had some good years together. They traveled and spent some time living in Texas and Elgin but eventually returned to the farm. Dad taught his children and grandchildren so much through his example of faithfulness and love and His desire to study and to obey the Word of God. As long as he could, he knelt beside his bed and prayed before retiring for the night.
The last few years were difficult but Dwight and his family faithfully and lovingly cared for Dad. The news that he had been called Home on June 22 while he slept was sweet but yet so sad.
Dad was the last living of the 14 siblings. He will be lovingly missed by his three children, Dwight with Thelma, Evonne with Dave Ginther, and Cindy with Arlen Lundberg. Thirteen grandchildren loved him so much and some of the 46 great grandchildren were able to meet and to learn to love and to pray for him.
Dad, we look forward to seeing you and Mom in heaven! Thank you for showing us what matters most in life.
