Alfred Allen Kallis was born on March 22, 1938 to Jacob and Katherine (Okken) Kallis in Solon Township, Hettinger County, ND.  Alfred grew up on the family farm and completed the eighth grade at the one room rural school house ½ mile north of their farm.  He graduated from New Leipzig High School in 1956.

After high school, he went to Montana and worked as a road crew laborer on the Pintar Scenic Highway for the summer.  Shortly after coming home, he was hired by Myron Ebert as a farm hand on their farm northeast of Mott, ND in Beery Township.   He also served in the U.S. Army for 3 years stationed in Thailand and Hawaii.  He was a member of the Taylor-Skartvedt Post #71 of the American Legion.  After the Army, he returned to the Ebert farm where he lived and worked for the rest of his life.  Alfred became a beloved and very special part of their family.   For the past 22 years, he has been a partner in the farming and ranching operation with his step-son Leland Ebert.

Alfred married the love of his life Lorene (Pekas) Ebert on December 3, 1999 in a private ceremony at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mott, ND where he became an active member.  Together they enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and visiting with friends and relatives.  They always looked forward to meeting family at the Red Lobster in Bismarck for lunch.  Alfred loved being outdoors doing whatever needed to be done.  When he fixed something it stayed fixed.  He loved his snacks and always had a stash of peanuts and candy bars in every car, pickup or tractor he was in.  He was a cattleman who loved rodeos and old western movies and TV shows.  The ring tone on his cell phone was the theme from Bonanza put on there by his granddaughter Lindsey.

Alfred never mentioned retiring and he worked hard doing what he loved until his day of death.  He went to heaven knowing that this year's crop had been planted and the calving season was just about done.  He was a kind, generous man with a huge, soft heart and wonderful sense of humor.  He loved spending time with his granddaughters Samantha and Lindsey, his grandson-in-law Weston, and his great granddaughter Emily.

Alfred went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife on Saturday evening, April 25, 2015.

Alfred is survived by his step son, Leland (Cathy) Ebert, of Mott, ND; granddaughters, Samantha (Weston) Bohnet, Bentley, ND and Lindsey Ebert, Mott, ND and his great granddaughter, Emily Bohnet, Bentley, ND; his brother, Harold (Annetta) Kallis, Tuttle, ND; his sister, Mable (Willard) Auch, Andover, MN; sisters-in-law, Darlene Kallis, Mott, ND and Viola Kallis, Bethel, MN, nephews Bruce (Irene) Kallis, Mott, ND, Perry (Linda) Kallis, Lodi, CA, Scott (Kathryn) Kallis, Detroit Lakes, MN, LaMonte Auch, Coon Rapids,  MN, Galen Auch, Blaine, MN,  niece Kathi (Glenn) Dewey, Ellinwood, KS, and numerous great-nieces and nephews, family and friends.
