Agnes Rogne was born on March 9, 1923 to Ole and Sophie (Adolphson) Rogne at the family farm 4 ½ miles southeast of Regent, ND. She attended a rural country school and graduated from the 8th grade, at which time she began helping out at home.
Agnes met Reuben Braaten at a barn dance north of Regent, ND. She began working for Reuben's sister and shortly after Reuben and Agnes began dating. They were united in marriage on August 8, 1943 at the Bernice and Eddie Rustan home. They began their married life with Reuben's folks and eventually bought a small house and moved to the Knute Braaten farm. Reuben and Agnes eventually bought the H.O. Kjar farm and made it their home. Eight children were born to this union: LaVoyle, Bonita, Bobbie Faye, Keith, Arlinda, Judy, Karen and Gladine.
Agnes spent her days helping out on the farm and raising her family. She loved baking, especially homemade bread and rolls. She also found time to sew and made most of the clothes for her children. In the late 1980's they retired from farming and moved into Hettinger. Agnes then began working at the school cafeteria, a job she thoroughly enjoyed.
Following Reuben's death in 1996, Agnes remained active in the community. She was a member of the Wolf Butte Church and later the Hettinger Lutheran Church. Agnes helped make many layette kits for the church and was a part of the Hettinger Lutheran Ladies Aide. She enjoyed quilting for her family and also the time spent with the church ladies quilting for the Hettinger Lutheran Church Ministries.
She volunteered at the Clothes Closet and also with "BINGO" at the Nursing Home. She was also a member of the Second 40 Club, the Eagles, the Homemakers Club and Women Alone. Agnes loved to play games, whether it was card games or board games and especially enjoyed dancing. She had a contagious laugh and could be heard whistling any number of songs she enjoyed. She always made time for people and enjoyed family get togethers with her numerous children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great granddaughter.
