Agner John Jacobsen was born on the family homestead in Seim Township, Perkins County, SD on October 10, 1912. His father, Martin Jacobsen settled there in 1909 and his mother Jenny Benson joined him in 1910. Agner grew up on the homestead and attended the Dahl School in the Seim School District through the eighth grade. He farmed with his parents and during the drought years of the 1930's went west to central Washington State to work at the farms in that area. After his time in Washington he moved to Montana where he worked as a farm and ranch hand. On the weekends he would often travel to the mountains of Montana with his friends and watch them participate in rodeos. On one occasion Agner tried to ride bronc and ended up winning a saddle. When WWII broke out, he served proudly in the U.S. Army. He was a Corporal in the 386th Bombardment Squadron and he received training as a rifle marksman.

Following his discharge from the service, he worked for Ham's as a farm and ranch hand. In 1951 Agner returned to the family homestead and farmed and ranched with his brother, Martin. They used teams of horses, of course in those early years to bring in the hay crop and to do the cultivating. Agner worked with his brother Martin until he retired. In 2001 Agner moved into the HUD in Lemmon.

Agner passed away at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon, SD on May 16, 2011.

He is survived by good friend, Max Smebakken. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Martin and Eva Lee.

Visitations will be on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon and 30 minutes prior to the service on May 19, at the Rosebud Lutheran Church.
